Treatment for Eye Conditions
Eye problems range from mild to severe; some are chronic, while others may resolve on their own. If your eyes look unusual, feel uncomfortable, or your vision changes, schedule an eye exam.
We treat common eye conditions such as astigmatism, dry eye syndrome, and presbyopia. IPL treatment is one option for managing dry eye. For information about cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, see our eye disease management page.
Please book an appointment with our practice if you have any concerns.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is a highly common refractive error caused by an irregular curvature of the cornea or the eye's natural lens. Instead of being perfectly round like a basketball, the eye is shaped more like a football. This prevents light from focusing properly on the retina, leading to blurred or distorted vision at all distances.
-
Treatments: Can be easily corrected using prescription eyeglasses, specialized contact lenses (such as toric lenses), or refractive surgery (like LASIK).
Dry eye syndrome (DES)
Dry Eye Syndrome occurs when your eyes either do not produce enough tears, or the tears evaporate too quickly, leaving the surface of the eye unlubricated and irritated. Symptoms often include a gritty feeling, redness, and intermittent blurry vision.
-
Treatments: Options range from over-the-counter artificial tears to advanced in-office therapies.
Presbyopia
After age 40, many people develop difficulty with reading and other near-vision tasks. This is because with age, the lens of our eye becomes increasingly inflexible, making it harder to focus on close objects. This condition is called presbyopia and affects most people with age.
- Treatments: Presbyopia affects almost everyone eventually and can be managed with reading glasses, bifocals, progressives, or specialized contact lenses.
